Prime Minister Narendra Modi had a meeting with Egypt’s Foreign Minister, Dr. Badr Abdelatty, in New Delhi on Friday, where he acknowledged Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi’s efforts in helping to achieve a peace agreement for Gaza. PM Modi congratulated President Sisi for Egypt’s “important part” in bringing about the ceasefire and expressed optimism that this agreement would lead to enduring peace and stability in the area. The Foreign Minister updated the Prime Minister about the results of the first India-Egypt Strategic Dialogue that took place during his visit. The Prime Minister welcomed the enhancement of the India-Egypt relationship and expressed happiness with the advancements in vital sectors of cooperation such as trade, technology, energy, defense, and relationships between citizens.

Later on social media, PM Modi posted: “Happy to host the Foreign Minister of Egypt, Dr. Badr Abdelatty. I expressed my sincere thanks to my friend, President Sisi, for his significant role in the Gaza Peace Agreement. The India-Egypt Strategic Partnership is continually getting stronger for the good of our citizens, our common region, and all of humanity.” This recent news follows the official invitation Prime Minister Modi received from President Sisi to be part of the Gaza Peace Summit, which occurred last week in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt. However, he did not go, and India was represented by Minister of State Kirti Vardhan Singh. The summit brought together leaders from the region and around the world to talk about how to implement and supervise the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, which followed several weeks of conflict in Gaza. The ceasefire in Gaza was facilitated by US President Donald Trump, who played a key role in the discussions between Israel and Hamas. Egypt hosted these discussions and served as a guarantor for the agreement, which involved stopping hostilities and allowing humanitarian aid to enter Gaza.

While meeting, Modi and Abdelatty also talks about trade between the two countries, defense collaboration, energy partnerships, and technology cooperation. They looked into the results of the first India–Egypt Strategic Dialogue and acknowledged the progress in areas like exchanges among people and cooperation at various institutions.
