Nigeria in a state of emergency

Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan ran out of luck in his regime as he had to force a state of emergency in three states of the nation in a bid to control the Islamist rebellion and violence in the nation.

Boko Haram is an Islamist extremist group which has started to take the violent paths while escalating the attacks on the security forces and their targets in the government in the northeastern states of Borno, Yobe and Adamawa states, pushing President Jonathan to call for emergency.

Extra soldiers were also deployed to these states to ensures heightened security for the civilians.

Boko Haram fighters in big numbers driving buses and trucks armed with machine guns to the town of Bama, in Borno, last week, freeing over 100 prison inmates and leaving 55 people dead, mostly police and other security forces.

Only a few days ago, combined troops of Nigeria, Niger and Chad raided Baga village on the brinks of Lake Chad looking for Islamists in the process of which several people died.

"We are facing ... a rebellion and insurgency by terrorist groups which pose a very serious threat to our national unity," President Jonathan told the people on a tele broadcast.
