American who joined Islamic State faces sentencing

The American Citizen who was convicted of joining the Islamic state overseas is facing a sentence up to 35 years in U.S jury trial.

The 27-year-old Mohammed Khweis of Alexandria was convicted last year in federal court of Virginia on terrorism charges. In Dec 2015 he travelled to Islamic controlled territories in Iraq and Syria, he even bought an official membership card. He escaped from there after months as he found life there distasteful.

Prosecutors said that He even volunteered to be a suicide bomber. Defence lawyers are seeking a five-year prison term; they said he never intended any harm to the U.S
