Snap separated its smart wearables section into a new business last year. At the Augmented World Expo 2026 on Tuesday, this new company introduced its first consumer-oriented augmented reality (AR) smart glasses named Specs. These new AR glasses come in two different sizes. The frame is made from a Swiss material called TR90 polymer. They run on two unnamed Snapdragon processors, which allow users to track their hands and interact with the glasses. The company also states that it has submitted more than 7,000 patents while creating these new AR glasses. The Specs smart glasses can be pre-ordered for $2,195 (approximately Rs. 2,07,000) through the Specs online shop, with a refundable deposit of $200 (roughly Rs. 19,000). The company plans to ship these AR glasses this fall to the US, the UK, and France. However, details about their availability in other places, like India, have not been shared yet.

Snap's latest Specs AR glasses come in two different sizes. The smaller 47mm version weighs around 132g, whereas the larger 52mm version weighs about 136g. They can also have prescription lenses added. The display system in these smart glasses uses the company's special liquid crystal on silicon technology. The Specs AR glasses provide a 51-degree field of view and have 16 million colors available. Additionally, the company claims that the display looks like a 24-inch desktop monitor when a user is working, or like a 115-inch “home cinema screen” viewed from roughly 10 feet away when watching a movie or show. They employ a waveguide technology featuring billions of tiny structures, which allegedly offers a “clearer and more seamless look” at the surroundings. Furthermore, the Specs AR glasses come with electrochromic lenses that can change tints in about 10 seconds as a user transitions from a dark setting to a bright one. The company mentions that these wearables can overlay maps on the user's environment to enhance the experience and can also measure spaces.

The glasses provide a range of AR tools and an AI-powered voice assistant that can answer questions and provide information based on what’s around the user. Additionally, wearers can stream media directly on the Specs AR glasses. For privacy concerns, the smart glasses include an LED light that indicates when the front camera is active.
